Learning Center Courses at Delphi Energy & Chassis - Saginaw

Learn in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. Progress is individualized. Students can pace themselves at a comfortable rate. Teachers are friendly and flexible regarding schedule changes and adjusting class to student needs. Our location is upstairs in plant # 5 across from the break area. Instructors are available for confidential individualized lessons. Contact the Learning Center staff at 757-2646 weekdays or stop in to see us.

SKILLS FOR LIFE AND FOR THE FUTURE

WRITING LAB: Improve your ability to express yourself on paper. Learn to use correct punctuation and grammar.

SPELLING: This course will help you lean how to spell words, and show you how to correctly add endings to words. Increase your spelling confidence in a friendly atmosphere.

MATH: Work with fractions, measurement, decimals, percentages, beginning geometry and an introduction to algebra. A pre-test will show areas of strength and weakness. A post-test will show results of your study.

READING: Learn to remember more of the material you read, find the main idea and summarize what you’ve read.

SPEED-READING: A computer program examines your current reading speed and comprehension level. It sets up a training program and provides games to raise your speed and your ability to use your peripheral vision. The program also provides timing and pacing for off-screen reading practice and charts your progress.

MEMORY: Learn techniques to help you remember long words, appointments, errands, shopping lists, speeches, vocabulary, names, faces and numbers.

PREPARE FOR THE APPRENTICE SELECTION TEST Learn effective timed test taking strategies, shop-based math, blueprint reading and spatial relations basics and obtain a comprehensive skill review in a variety of topics of special interest to those interested in job upgrading preparation. Lessons are individualized and paced to your needs.

TYPING USING THE COMPUTER You can learn to be a touch-typist in this individualized, self-paced course. Use our computer-aided programs to meet your typing goals of speed and accuracy.

Introduction to Using a GPS (Global Positioning System) What is a GPS? How can I use it? What is WAAS? Choosing a GPS to meet your needs. Terminology. Learning the 6 different screens (GPS Information Page, Map Page, Compass Page. Highway Page, Active Route Page and Plot Page). Learn to mark waypoints and set up routes. Learn to use a MapSource CD to transfer data to the GPS.

Computer Classes

BEGINNING COMPUTERS Use computer tutorials to learn the basics about computers (how to use the keyboard and mouse) and what computers can do, Windows operating system, and the programs in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

USING COMPUTERS Master one or many! Learn to do word processing, use a spreadsheet, and/or manage data. Learn to use Windows 98/Me/XP and/or Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP. Meet your needs for high school credit, work, home or hobby. You can learn to use the Internet, Outlook Express, MS-Outlook, a CD Burner, Digital Photo Manipulation (fixing and enhancing pictures), learn about getting connected (networking and internet connections), learn to keep your computer healthy with PC Maintenance, Customize Windows to keep family harmony, learn about Spyware and Pop Up Ads, learn to make labels, discuss what you need to know to buy a computer and much more.
